There was a “boulder” in the middle of this apartment. It wasn’t your typical rock formation, but rather a mountainous wood and metal structure in the shape of a vaulted bed. Architectural designer Aaron Korntreger remembers the clunker in his client David DePoalo’s Manhattan studio vividly.
“Right in the center of this long narrow space, the architect of the previous renovation had put this platform, which blocked all the natural light,” he says. “You entered into this cave environment that made no sense.”
